Wow, can you believe I never finished my posts of our trip back to my hometown in June of 2018. This is the second to the last day we were in Seattle. I think it was Friday, June 29. First, a picture of last night's dinner.

This donut shop always brings back memories from when my Mom and I were walking to the shop from our house. She was still pregnant with my little sister but she was wearing platform shoes. Before we got to the shop, she fell down and broke her little pinky. It's a story I've told my sister about a hundred times.
このドーナツショップを見るたんびに、ある出来事が思い出す。自分はまだ小学校５年生だった。母と一緒にこの店まで歩いて行った。母さんは当時流行の厚底靴を履いて、店に着く前に、靴から落ちて、小指を折った。この話は妹に何百回くらい話しているな。
Today, my sister was taking up out to lunch to a Vietnamese restaurant called [Pho King]. Although the Japanese pronounce "pho" as "foe", my sister says her Vietnamese friend told her the proper pronunciation is "fuh". Yep, in English, the pronunciation would be "Fuh・King". I think you get the humor in that.
今日妹が私たちを連れてくれたのは、ベトナム料理店の「フォ・キング」。日本人は"pho"を”フォ"と発音するが、妹のベトナム人の友達が"pho"の正しいハス音は"ファ"。とういうことは、この店の名前は「ファ・キング」。はい、ちょっと言葉の遊びですね。

My sister, then took us to Point Ruston. I'm always fascinated by public art, especially sculptures. ART at Point Ruston is an NPO in bringing art in a "big way" to Point Ruston.

Well, July 4th is American Independence Day. It's also my father's birthday, and our official wedding anniversary.
７月４日のピンバッジ。なんでここにあるのかがわからない。今回の里帰りは６月下旬だった。ま、アメリカの独立記念日でもあり、自分の父のお誕生日でもあり。あとは僕と妻の正式な結婚記念日だ。

Next, I asked my sister to take us to a familiar Tacoma site that I have fond memories of.

Any long time resident of Tacoma would know this place. It's [Frisko Freeze], a burger joint which also has these chocolate malt shakes on their menu.

This is the City Central Church. When I looked it up on the Internet a few minutes ago, the church seems to have moved to a new location and into a more modern building.

My sister said this is another place that we just had to go to. A donut shop called [Legendary Doughnuts].

Another one of my friends who I've known for over forty years. We used to work together as dishwashers at country club kitchen.
４０年以上の付き合いになる友人の一人です。カントリークラブの厨房で皿洗いとして一緒に働いていたこともあります。
Some family photos. My dad was 87 in this picture. He passed away in March of 2022 at the age of 91.

My mother is 88 this year but I saw pictures of her in Mexico from last week and she's looking pretty good.

My Dad and I are big fans of root beer. Oh, and we both love butterscotch. Imagine that, a butterscotch flavored root beer from a company based out of Chicago called Orca Beverage. It's called O-So Butterscotch Root Beer.

This will be our last night in Seattle. Tomorrow, we'll be heading back to Tokyo, see some friends and head back to Aomori the following day.
今日がシアトル最後の夜となる。僕と妻は東京に帰ります。東京で一泊して、翌日靑森に帰る。夜は東京の友達と会うことになってる。
We were planning to head back to the States in 2020 to help celebrate my Dad's 90th birthday but that plan fell through due to the coronavirus. In fact, because of the pandemic, we couldn't even attend my father's funeral in 2022. We did join by remote though.
また２年後にアメリカに行く計画していた。父の９０歳のお祝いの為にまた里ガエルする予定だった。ですが、２０１９年の１２月、新型コロナの影響で帰らなくなった。パンデミックになり、２０２２年、父が亡くなった年もアメリカで直接お父さんの葬式も参加出来ず、悲しい出来事だった。
