Demachi Hot Spring / 出町温泉

Our friends were visiting from Tokyo for Golden Week (1st week of May) so they came with us to the Nebuta House [Warasse], along with my friend's mother. To kill time before dinner, we wandered around the Memorial Ship "Hakkoda Maru" (where my mother-in-law works) and then decided to go to a local hot spring. If there is one thing I love about Aomori City, it's that there is an abundance of natural hot springs you can go to. When my wife and I lived in Tokyo, our neighborhood had a sento (a public bath), but the sento culture is rapidly diminishing from the Metropolis. Here in Aomori City, hot springs are plentiful and priced about the same as the sento in Tokyo. We decided to go to a place called [Demachi Onsen], onsen being the Japanese word for hot spring.

ゴールデンウィークの間友達が東京から青森に来てました。青森は友達の実家でもあり、僕の妻の幼馴染でもあり。彼と彼の妻が一緒にねぶたの家「ワ・ラッセ」に来てました。彼のお母さんも。夕飯まで結構時間があって、時間つぶしのため、駅の周辺を行ったり、新青森駅で日本酒を飲んだり、そして街の中の温泉に行ってきた。僕は東京に住んでたたころ、うちの近所に銭湯がありましたが、ある日、その銭湯がなくなった。私たちにとって悲し出来事でした。でも青森市に引っ越したら、銭湯どころか、街のあちこちに天然温泉がいっぱいある。銭湯と同じくらいの料金で入れる。今回選んだ温泉は出町温泉でした。

お墓参り。

Trying some Nihon-shu for only 100 yen from this vending machine. However, the cup you get is very small.

新青森駅に日本酒を百円で一杯飲める販売機がある。飲み試しのカップは結構小さいけどね。

I can't remember which one I tried this time around.

今回どの日本酒を飲んだのは覚えてない。

And here we are at Demachi Onsen.

そして出町温泉に到着。

And since you're not allowed to take pictures inside the bath, I borrowed a couple off the Internet just to give you an idea of what the place looks like inside.

もちろん風呂の中の撮影は禁止されてるので、ネットで写真を借りた。これで、温泉の中はどういう感じかわかる。

There was a small area that was really slippery and clumsy me, I stepped there and bonked my head! But I didn't suffer any pain, only the pain of embarrassment!

丁度滑りやすいところを踏んだら、漫才の様に後ろに倒れ、強く頭を打った。大したことはなかったが、超恥ずかしい出来事でした。
