Mom's 2019 Aomori Visit (Part 2) / 母の２０１９年、青森紀行（パート２）

On my mother's second full day in Aomori, she wanted to take my wife and I to Misawa Air Base for a little birthday and early Christmas shopping. She was also going to treat us to lunch as well. She wanted to take us to a nice sit down dinner, but we told her, "Mom, they have Taco Bell on base! We want to eat there!"

お母さんが青森に来て、三日目。日曜日で妻も仕事から休み、三沢に行きました。自分のお父さんは元米軍で、母が三沢基地に入れることが出来ます。私たちのスポンサーで私たちも入ることが出来た。三沢基地の目的は私たちの誕生日プレゼントと早いクリスマスプレゼントを買ってくれるということで、楽しいショッピングをしあした。昼は基地の中のレストランで食べようと提案したが、私たちは基地の中なら、メキシカンファーストフードの「タコ・ベル」で食べたいと言ってあげた。

三沢基地の到着。

I had me a Burrito Supreme with steak from Taco Bell for lunch.

やっぱりランチはタコベルのブリットシュプリーム、ステーキ入り。

My wife had crunchy tacos for the first time and liked them so much, she ordered a second round. I think she ate about four of them.

妻が初めてクランチータコスを食べて感動した。４個を食べたよ。

We spent about an hour and a half at the BX (Base Exchange) and then another thirty minutes in the commissary. My mother also told us to get something for my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and her husband. Before, I would get excited and choose a bunch of American sweets but as I've grown older, now I just want practical things like T-shirts and underwear! My wife found some sneakers that fit her (she can never find her size at a Japanese shoe store). At the commissary, they have hummus. I bought that the last time my mother came and after she tasted it, she seems to be hooked on it now and buys it often back home in the States.

BX（基地の中の雑貨店みたなところ）で一時間半くらい買い物してた。その後は基地の中のスーパーへ。BXで母が義理の母と義理の妹夫妻にもなんか買ってあげなさいと言ってくれた。昔の俺だったらアメリカのお菓子や食べ物に集中したが、段々年取ったら、なんだか実用的なものを選んだ。ワイシャツの下に着る白いTシャツや下着など。でもスーパーで一つの食べ物がどうしても買いたかった。それが中近東でも人気あるフムスというもの。僕はこれが大好きで、今自分の母もはまって、アメリカでもしょっちゅう買って食べてるみたい。

As when my friend came to visit last year during the Nebuta season, we parked our car at my mother-in-law's older sister's house who lives very near where the parade starts. As we would have a couple of hours before the start of the festivities, we enjoyed food and drinks with our hosts.

去年友達がねぶたの時期に来たと同じよう、今年も義理の母の姉の家に車を止めさして、ねぶたのスタート始点で観察することに。まだ時間もあり、結構義理の母の姉の家で結構飲んで食べた。

Our host, Kuraji-san, broke out a fine bottle of "Denshu". A Nihon-shu made here in Aomori Prefecture.
