Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival 2022 /

My wife got her booster shot for COVID-19 last Saturday so she was out all day on Sunday. I was hoping to go to Ashino Park in Goshogawara on Monday to check out the cherry blossoms and have lunch at a cafe called [Ekisha]. Unfortunately, my wife was still not in the best of condition to go out. I resigned myself to staying at home on such a nice day again. However, my wife said she was feeling good enough to go out to see the blossoms but instead of going to Ashino Park, she suggested we go to Hirosaki Park in Hirosaki instead. We invited my mother-in-law along and left the house around eight in the morning. It's a little after the full bloom but we wanted to check out the cherry blossom carpet that would appear on the castle moat.

I spotted a Sakura Miku panel in the park.

A two-shot with Sakura Miku.

A large gingko tree. It has a circumference of 600cm (236 inches), a height of approximately 32 meters (105 feet), and is over 300 years old.

Another Sakura Miku panel.

So I had my picture taken with her.

You can see Mount Iwaki in the background.

There were a lot of people rowing boats in the moat.

Not cherry blossoms but they were pretty as well.

Another large tree in the park. This is a pine tree. The circumference is 2.4 meters (7.9 feet). It has a height of 6 meters (19.7 feet) and is over 300 years old.

This is another Weeping Cherry Blossom tree. It has a circumference of 307 cm (10 feet), a height of approximately 5.4 meters (approx. 17 feet), and was gifted to the city of Hirosaki in 1914.

Gotta get in one touristy picture.

Mount Iwaki in the background.

This looks like a cherry blossom shop-curtain. "Are you open for business?"

Me with my mother-in-law.

Me and my wife and cherry blossoms.

My wife didn't bother going to the top of the castle but I did.

This picture is taken from the top floor of the castle.

Repairs are still being done on the castle walls which started in 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

Another area of the moat completely covered by cherry blossom petals. In Japanese, it's called sakuraikada which translates to "cherry blossom raft".

My wife knew about this spot as she saw it featured on Instagram. We almost forgot to look for it. You can see the silhouette of a heart.

I should have had my palms flat so it looks like I was holding up the heart.

The park even provided a marker to show where the best position is to see the heart.

As we were headed back to the parking lot I just had to share this stylish Starbuck's Coffee shop.
