Every year in a suburb of Aomori City called Aburakawa, there is a road where you will find a number of scarecrows on display. Most of the scarecrows are made by students from various school. The scarecrows are usually of people or characters who were popular this year. There is also a main figure for the event. Last year was the professionall soccer player Gaku Shibasaki whose hometown is Noheji in Aomori Prefecture. This year's main personality for the 2021 Scarecrow Road is the regional idol group Ringo Musume, a group of four girls (Jonagold, Toki, Ourin, and Saika - all named after a type of apple) who promote Aomori Prefecture. With the Tohoku and Hokkaido Jomon Sites being officially designated as a World Heritage Site, Ringo Musume's latest song that was released is titled "Jomon Girl".

These two are Aomori Prefecture regional characters. The one one the left is Okome Taishi (Ambassador Rice) and the one on the right is Kimete-kun whose favorite phrase is "Kimete wa Aomori-ken san" which translates to ”The decisive factor is Aomori Prefecture goods!"

Amabie, is a character from Japanese folklore. It is a mermaid or merman with a bird-beak and three legs or tail-fins. The amabie comes out of the sea and prophesizes either an abundant harvest or an epidemic, and instructs people to make copies of its likeness to defend against illness. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this character has become quite popular as of last year. This is a Goldfish Nebuta Amabie.
