Don's Aomori Visit (Day 7 Part 2) / ドン 青森紀行 （七日目 パート２）

And now for the reason why my friend Don came to visit us during the first week of August. In Aomori, it is time for the Nebuta Festival. One of the three biggest festivals in the Tohoku area. The other two being the Kanto Festival in Akita and the Tanabata Festival in Sendai. The Nebuta float parade wouldn't start until a little after seven and this year we were fortunate to park our car at my mother-in-law's older sister's house, who lives a very short distance away from where the parade stars. Don got to enjoy some genuine Aomori hospitality as my mother-in-law's sister fed us while the husband served beer and nihon-shu. I was drinking slowly, but the husband was filling Don's glass as quickly as he emptied it!

そして友達のドンがなぜ８月の一週目に青森に来た理由がわかる。２日から青森市のねぶた祭りが始まる。これが東北三大祭りの一つであり。ほかは秋田の竿燈まつりと仙台の七夕祭りです。ねぶた祭りは７時ころから始まるので、ちょっと時間が空いてました。今年は運良く、義理の母の姉の家に車が止めることが出来た。義理の母の姉は会場のすぐ近くにあった為、ラッキーと思いました。義理の母の姉夫妻は私たちに最高のおもてなしもしてくれた。旦那のほうが私たちに結構ビールと日本酒をおすすめしてくれた。自分はちょっと注意しながら飲んでましたが、ドンのグラスがちょっと減ったら、旦那のほうがすぐついで貰った。

Mr. Kuraji let us borrow some chairs and even brought us a cooler full of more beer! We had premium seats as this is where the Nebuta parade begins! 

クラジさんが私たちに椅子やビールのクーラーも貸してくれた。そした座ってる場所はねぶたの出発視点でもあり、最高の場所です。

The parade starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. As we are sitting at the starting point, we should be able to see all the Nebuta floats that will be participating this evening.

ねぶたは夜７時から始まって、９時に終了します。私たちが出発視点に居るため、今夜出てるねぶたをすべて見れるはずだ。
