Once we finished eating our ice cream at [Bon Serve], we then headed towards Cape Shiriya which is about a thirty to forty minute drive from where we were. Cape Shiriya is home to these wild horses called kandachime. They used to be able to roam free so you would see many of them near the Cape Shiriya Lighthouse. Unfortunately, too many people were trying to feed or pet the animals (even though you aren't supposed to) so the horses would protect themselves and kick the unwanted attention causing a lot of injuries. Now, they horses are kept in a small fenced in area and you are not allowed to get as close to the animals as before. Well, my wife and I have seen the horses before so that didn't bother us. My main objective was climb the lighthouse, it's one of the few in Japan that is open to the public. The last time we came, the lighthouse was undergoing renovations so it was closed! I'm hoping we will be able to climb it this time though. You do have to pay a small fee though. I think it was about 300yen for one adult.
We saw some people at the top so we knew it was open today!
Before walking up the steps, there was a display area showing how the lighthouse was built with two walls of bricks.
There are a total of 138 steps to the stop.
We're still climbing.
And here we are at the top of the lighthouse. What a great view.
You can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Tsugaru Strait from this vantage point.

It was pretty windy at the top and the ticket taker did say we were responsible for ourselves.
Around one area of the lighthouse, the wind wasn't so strong. We must have stayed up there for a good fifteen or twenty minutes.
While at a lighthouse, one must check out the lights.
Of course that area is not open to the public.
Time to walk down the steps.
The views from the various windows in the lighthouse are quite nice too.
Still walking down the stairs.
Another lighthouse window view.
We still had time to wander around the lighthouse.
Yep, we were up there not too long ago.
I was taking a nature break.
And now we were just driving around the cape.
Do you see a couple of black specks out on the water?
There were a couple of people paddle boarding out in the water.
My wife noticed the small torii on the rock out there.
We got to see the kandachime after all.
After driving around the cape, it was time to head back home.
