入道崎で最初にやることはやっぱりどこかでランチを食べる。妻は事前にしらべて、男鹿名物の石焼鍋が食べたいと言った。僕はなにも考えてなかった。入道崎に着いたら、良さそうなレストランを発見。店名は「みさき会館」。
Of course my wife ordered the stone-roasted one-pot dish. Today it was filled with trout, Japanese sea perch and crab legs. I noticed something interesting on their menu. A UFO ramen. It seems that this area is also known to be a spot for UFO sightings.
もちろん妻は石焼鍋を注文。本日の鍋の中身は真鯛、鱸と蟹。自分はメニューに面白いものを発見。UFOラーメンと書かれた。店内を見えると、この周辺はUFOが目撃された場所でもあり。

The waitress said to wait three or four minutes before the dish would be ready to eat.
This is my UFO ramen, made to look like an alien I suppose. It had a salt based broth and as you can see, different types of seafood.
これは僕が注文したUFOラーメン。エイリアンの顔になってます。塩味で海の幸がトッピングされてます。美味しかったです。
The restaurant owner told us that if we waited around for a bit, Namahages would make a visit here.
レストランの店主がちょっと待てたらなまはげが来ると教えてくれました。

Now that we are at Cape Nyudo, time to check out the Sea of Japan.
入道崎に来てますから日本海を眺めないっと。
We thought we would check out the lighthouse first.
日本海見る前にちょっと灯台のほうに行ってきました。
I've always wanted to go inside a lighthouse so imagine my delight that this is one of Japan's lighthouses that is open to the public (for a small fee). Something I can cross off my bucket list now.
自分のバケットリストにいつか灯台に登りたいなと思った。運が良く、この灯台は珍しく一般公開してます。上まで登ることが出来る。嬉しい！

Next we were on our way to another shrine - Akagami Goshado. There is a legend about the villagers and the Namahage which I will tell you about after we get there.
次の目的地はなまはげの伝説の場所でもある赤神神社五社堂。その話はのちほど。
But we stopped by this area because we saw there was an observation deck so we had to go explore.
この近くに止まった。なぜと言えば、道路の反対側に展望倍があったからです。

In the background is Toda Bay. In the foreground is the Ninomegatame Maar. A maar is a volcanic crater that is produced by an explosion in low relief area, is generally more or less circular, and often contains a lake, pond, or marsh according to Merriam-Webster's dictionary.
奥にありのは戸賀湾。手前にあるのはニノ目堅潟マール。マールは、火山活動のとき水蒸気やガス爆発によって出来た世界的にも珍しい特集火山である。男鹿半島にはニノ目潟のほか一ノ目潟、三ノ目潟のミツのマールがある。

We were not sure what the white buildings are in the background across the bay.

This seemed like an appropriate place for a two shot with my wife.

If you look closely at the picture, there is a small body of water in the middle left. This is part of the Ichinomegata Maar.
写真を良く見ると、左真ん中へんに紺色のところがある。そこが一ノ目潟マールである。
Heading back to the car to continue our journey.
車に戻って、赤神神社を目指す。
My wife spotted this criiter as we were on our way.
妻が運転中で見つかった動物。
My wife informed me that at Akagami Shrine, we will have to walk up 99 steps to get to the Goshado. As we had already climbed 100 steps at the lighthouse, I thought no problem.
妻が僕に教えた。赤神神社の五社堂まで行くのは９９段のステップがある。先程の灯台も１００段だったから問題の思った。
But according to the Namahage legend, it was 99 steps to the shrine, it was 999!!
なまはげの昔話によると９９段ではなく９９９段でした！！

Well, we're here now so we have no choice but to climb the 999 steps.

Sugatami Well (sugata means your body, mi is to see. So this can translate as a Reflective Well).

Darn those Namahages. It's not a very smooth path.

And now we're off to see a giant Namahage.
次はなまはげ立像を見に行く。
This should give you an idea of how large the Namahage statue is.
これでなまはげ立像の大きさがわかると思う。
And about two minutes from this place, we shall find the Godzilla Rock. But I'm going to save that for the next post.
