Don's Aomori Visit (Day 8 Part 1) / ドン 青森紀行 （八日目 パート１）

I am continuing sharing my adventures of my friend's recent visit to Aomori from the beginning of August. Today's date is August 4, 2018. It is a Saturday. My wife is working but has graciously given us a ride to Aomori station. As we had a bit to drink the previous evening, we thought we would start off our adventures come noon. The first order of business was lunch. I thought Don my enjoy trying something different so we went to a restaurant called [Galleteria da Sasino]. This is a restaurant that specializes in gallettes. What is a gallette? It is from French cuisine and is like a flat pancake made with buckwheat (soba) flour.

友人ドンの青森紀行のネタが続きます。本日土曜日、８月４日。妻が仕事があるため、また野郎二人の冒険の旅がまた始まる。妻が私たちを青森駅まで送って貰った。昨日はちょっと飲んでたので、昼からの冒険だ。最初することはランチだ。ドンは多分アメリカで食べたことないものを食べさかったので、行ったのは「ガレテリア・ダ・ササノ」。このレストランはガレットの専門店。ガレットはなにと言えば、フランス北西部の郷土料理です。生地の材料はそば粉を使用。

The restaurant is located on the second floor of the A-Factory building near Aomori station.

レストランは青森駅の近くのA-Factoryの２階にあります。

I ordered the Complete Gallette which is made with Towada garlic ham, eggs, cheese and salad.

僕が注文したのはガレットコンプレット。これが十和田ガーリック豚生ハム、アップル卵、チーズとサラダ。

Don ordered the smoked chicken and apple gallette which also includes cheese, onions, and salad.

ドンが注文したのはシャモロックのスモークと林檎のガレット。これがスモークササミ、チーズ、オニオンサラダとリンゴ。

Today, we would be going on another walking tour of Aomori City, and we will start off by visiting Hirota Shrine.

今日は街歩きの冒険。最初の目的地は廣田神社。

After exploring Hirota Shrine and the Inari Shrine, we started walking towards another temple area. But we came upon some interesting objects and sculptures.

廣田神社と稲荷神社を探索したあと、次目指したのは青森にある寺町。その途中で面白いものや彫刻も発見した。

Someone seems to have dropped a large apple here too.

ここで誰か大きな林檎も落としたみたいですね。

あれ？ 本物じゃなかったぞ！

Someone left there book here too and it has turned to stone.

誰かここに本を忘れてる。長くここにあったため、石になったんですかね？

The next temple we went to was where my father-in-law's funeral was held. It is called Rengeji Temple. Don had walked around the temple area on his own a few days ago but I think he was unaware that he could go inside to see the main altars.

次行ったお寺は自分の義理の父の葬式で行われたお寺です。お寺の名前は蓮華寺。ドンが一人で探索したときは外側しか見てなかった。中の本堂に行けるのは多分知らなかったんでしょうね。行ったとき、お寺のお坊さんも行って、本堂を見てくだしと丁寧に話をかけてくれた。

There are also many spots throughout Aomori Prefecture depicting where one of Japan's literary celebrities, Osamu Dazai had been.

青森県でいろんなところに太宰治の記念碑が建てられてる。

For those of you who are not familiar with Osamu Dazai.

We also visited Jokoji Temple.

寺町で常光寺にもお参りしました。

During the Nebuta season, many cruise ships pull into the harbor. I suggested to Don that we should go check out one of the cruise ships currently at port. And so our walking adventure will continue.

お寺巡りのあとに、海のほうを目指した。なぜと言えば、ねぶたの時期、いろんの豪華客船が青森に来る。その大きな船を見に行くことにした。そうやって歩きの冒険がつづく。
