先週末、下北半島の薬研渓谷の紅葉を見る為、僕と妻が義理の母と義理の母の妹を誘いました。青森市から薬研までは車で約２時間半。薬研に着いたら、もちろん温泉に入るつもりです。目的地はかっぱの湯。

We reached the city of Mutsu around 12:30pm. Before heading to the Yagen Valley, we decided to have lunch in town. On a previous visit to Mutsu, my wife and I had lunch at the Sky Restaurant which is on the top floor of the Mutsu Grand Hotel. We decided to take my mother-in-law and her sister there.
むつ市に着いたのは１２時半くらい。薬研渓谷行く前に、街でランチを食べることにしました。以前妻と一緒にむつ市にお尋ねたとき、むつグランドホテルの最上階にある「スカイレストラン」に食べたことがあって、今日のランチもそこに決めた。
The hotel may not look as grand from where I took the picture but it is built on top of a small mountain. Their is a nice view from the restaurant.
ホテルがそんなにグランドに見えないかもしりませんが、ホテルは小さなの山の上に建てられて、レストランの窓から素敵な風景が眺める。
The choice for today's lunch set is either beef or fish. Both sets include soup, salad, bread, and dessert. You can choose coffee or tea after the meal.
本日チェフのおすすめランチは牛肉か魚。セットはスープ、サラダ、パン、とデザート付。食後の飲み物はコーヒーや紅茶。

Lunch started with a chilled pumpkin soup. This was really delicious.
ランチで最初に出されたのは冷たいカボチャスープ。これはとっても美味しかった。
Next, we were served a fresh green salad with a vinaigrette dressing.
次はサラダ。ヴィネグレットドレッシング使用。
A heated bun with butter.
温めたパンとバター。
My wife and I chose the beef lunch. The beef was sirloin topped with sauce chasseur (a French brown sauce which includes mushrooms and shallots).
僕と妻が牛を選んだ。本日の牛はトモサンカクのソースシャスール。このソースは漁師風でエシャロットやキノコを用いたソース。
My mother-in-law and her sister ordered the fish. Today's fish was swordfish topped with bread crumbs in squid ink and a lime sauce.
義理の母と義理の母の妹が魚料理を注文した。本日の魚はメカジキのイカスミ パン粉焼きライムソース。
Today's dessert was ice cream with strawberry sauce, blueberry mousse and some fruit.
本日のデザートはアイスのストロベリーソース、ブルーベリームースとフルツ。
All this for the very reasonable price of ￥1,250. (about $14.00 USD).
チェフおすすめのランチセットはなんと￥１２５０。
Before heading to the Yagen Valley, we decided to take a look at the Mutsu Shimokita Local Museum which was located behind the hotel.
薬研渓谷行く前に、ホテルの裏にむつ・下北郷土資料館があって、ちょっと行ってみました。

I just love these small local museums. My mother-in-law was enjoying it as well but we need to head to the Yagen Valley before it gets dark to not only enjoy the autumn colors but to enjoy the outdoor hot spring as well.
僕はこういう小さな資料館が大好き。義理の母も結構楽しんでたが、妻が早く薬研渓谷いかないと暗くなるよと言われ、いざ薬研へ。
But I had to take a peak into another building that showcased many handmade Japanese dolls.
でもやっぱり別のビルに展示された日本人形が気になって、ちょっとだけ覗いてみた。
Okay, we really need to head to the Yagen Valley and the Kappa no Yu hot spring before it gets dark. It's another thirty minute drive from Mutsu to the valley.
本当に薬研渓谷いかないと日か暮れちゃうので、次の目的地に出発しました。ここから車で３０分の距離なので、まだ時間は大丈夫だ。
