And here we are at Furofushi Hot Spring. This place is famous for its hot spring. It's also called the "Sunset Hot Spring" as many people like to soak in the bath and watch the sun set below the Sea of Japan. However, the bath is reserved for hotel guests for the sunset time. But you can still enjoy the bath before 4pm. What is interesting about this bath is the color. Its brown because of a lot of minerals. Also, the outdoor bath has a women only area but the other area is mixed. There is no men only area at this outdoor bath.
青森県の温泉不老不死温泉に到着。夕焼け温泉でも言われる有名な温泉。一番有名なのはこの温泉の露天風呂。日本海に面して、温泉客はお風呂に入りながら夕焼けを楽しむ。夕焼けの時間は宿泊客が優先で日帰りのお客様は夕方４時まで入浴可能。もう一つの特徴がある。温泉のお湯は茶色い。ミネラルが多く含まれてる温泉です。面白いのは女性用の場所がありますが、男性のみの場所はありません。はい、女性用と混浴の露天となります。
It may have been Don's first Japanese hot spring experience but I don't think he had a problem with getting naked in front of strangers as is the custom in this country.

There's nothing like taking soaking in a hot outdoor bath while looking at the Sea of Japan. The only problem was that the temperature today was 98.6 degrees!

As we were headed back to Aomori City we made a few more side trips. The first one was to Engakuji Temple in Fukaura.
メインの場所に行ったので、青森市の帰り道でいろんな寄り道もしました。最初に止まったは深浦にある円覚寺。
This weekend, one of the buildings that's usually closed to the public was open. It is open to the public once every thirty years! However, the entrance fee was 2000yen so we passed on checking it out.
今週末は円覚寺で３０年に一回しか公開しない本堂があり、でも入場料は一人二千円のため、却下しました。
But we did go to another small local museum that was within walking distance of the temple.

My wife said, "Do you really want to take Don to Benten Island in this weather?" Hey, who knows when Don will be back in Aomori, so yes, we should go check it out. But remember, the temperature outside is almost 100 degrees!
妻が本当に弁天島まで行く。こんなに暑いのに？ドンがいつまた青森に来るのかわからないから行ってるみるべきと伝えた。でもやっぱり今日の気温は４０度近く！超暑いよ！
There is a little man made walkway out to the island so getting there was no problem. But as there is no shade, it was extremely hot.
弁天島まで人工の橋があり、行きが簡単。ですが、今日は３７度。写真を見れば、日陰がどこにもありません。超暑い！
There are stair built into the island to take us to the top. You can tell how hot it is just by looking at Don's shirt.

After our adventure to Benten Island, it was definitely time for another ice cream. Before Don came to Aomori, I had mentioned a shop that serves sea salt (made from the Sea of Japan) soft serve and he said that was something he definitely wanted to try.
弁天島の冒険の後はやっぱりアイスの時間だ。ドンが青森に来る前に、僕がある場所で潮騒アイスが売ってる場所があるよ。それにしても、とっても美味しい。ドンがそのアイスを是非食べたいと言ったので、その店に行きました。
I think this may be Don's favorite new flavor of ice cream.
もしかて、この味がドンの一番好きなアイスになったかも。

When we got back to Aomori City, it was time for dinner. We decided to go to this Chinese restaurant called [Banryu]. It is currently me and my wife's favorite place to go for their spicy onion ramen.
青森市に戻ったら丁度夕飯の時間だった。浪岡にある中華料理店の幡龍に行きました。最近僕と妻がこの店の旨辛ねぎラーメンにハマってます。
I think this also became Don's favorite ramen. I think he enjoyed it more than the sardine broth ramen he had the previous day.
ドンもこのラーメンにハマりましたね。先日の煮干ラーメンよりこっちのほうが良いと言ってました。
After dinner, it was off to home. But our adventure didn't end there. As it was so hot outside today and we traveled far, we thought it would be nice to go to a local hot spring. So we went to a place called Machinaka Onsen. So that means Don had taken two Japanese baths in one day! After our bath, then we went back home and turned in early as tomorrow we will be driving up the Shimokita Peninsula to Ozorezan and Wakinosawa. Adventures with Don will continue...
夕飯が終わって今日の一日が終了して思ったら、そうでもない。やっぱり旅の疲れをとるためにまちなか温泉に行ってきました。まちなか温泉は街の中にある温泉施設。自分の家から車で１５分くらいの距離。お風呂のあとは家に帰って、早めに寝る。明日の予定は下北半島に行く予定。目的地は恐山と脇野沢にある野猿。ドンとの冒険がまだまだ続きます。。。
