Burger Shop [Ocean's Diner] and more Snow Shoveling / バーガーショップ「オーシャンズ・ダイナー」と雪かき

Tokyo is full of gourmet burger shops. I often spent more than 1000yen on a burger at these places as they were so good. Imagine my shock when I moved to Aomori City and it seemes like the only burger offerings were from McDonald's or Mos Burger, not that I don't like either of those, but those are fast food. Sometimes you just want to eat a gourmet burger. But then I discovered there was a burger shop inside A-Factory, a place where you can buy regional Aomori products. It's located on the first floor of A-Factory close to where I work and is called [Ocean's Diner]. 

東京ならグルメバーガーショップはいっぱいある。いろんなグルメバーガーショップに行き、１０００円以上のバーガーを何回も食べたことがある。靑森市に引っ越したらショックを受けた。グルメバーガーショップが１軒もないみたい。バーガー食べたいならマックかモスバーガーになる。別にその２件も嫌いという訳でもないし、ですが、グルメバーガーショップとは言わない。でもある日、職場の近くにある観光客に靑森県産のアイテムで帰る施設A-Factoryの中に１件のグルメバーガー屋があった。それが「オーシャンズ・ダイナー」。

I believe I ordered the Salsa Burger while my wife ordered the Ocean's Burger. 

この時自分が多分サルサバーガーを注文し、妻はオーシャンズバーガーを注文した。

We also had gelato for dessert and I had the sake and sweet potato flavors. 

デザートでジェラートを食べて、僕が酒とさつまいもを食べた。

I don't recall what flavors my wife ordered.

As it was still January, we were still in the middle of winter and snow shoveling season. 

まだ１月（２０１８年）、冬のど真ん中で雪かきの季節でもあった。

Snow on the roof. Just have to wait for it to fall off.

We finished snow shoveling the side of the house before it got too dark. 

暗くなる前に家と家の間の雪を片付けた。

And so ends another day. 

それで今日の雪かきも終了しました。

New Year's Eve Dinner and the First Shrine Visit of the Year / 大晦日の夕飯と初詣

Well, it's the first of April and I haven't posted anything about this year yet so I thought I would remedy that situation by talking sharing 2023's New Year's Eve dinner and hatsumode (our first shrine visit of the year). 

うわ、今日でもう４月１日。今年に入って、年内のネタ一つも書いてないから、それをなんとかする。紹介するのは２０２３年大晦日の夕飯と今年の初詣。

We had sushi, tempura, chawan mushi (a type of egg custard), roll sandwiches from Costco

大晦日の夕飯に寿司、天ぷら、茶碗蒸し、コストのロールサンドなど。

This was part of the meal too. Roast beef from 7-11. 

これも大晦日の夕飯で食べた。妻がセブンイレブンで発注したローストビーフ。

We got home before the countdown to the New Year. 

新年になる前にうちに帰った。

Also snacked on this butter azuki rice cake. A product of Akita. 

あとバターあすき餅を食べた。秋田県の名産みたいです。

The following day was New Year's Day. We decided to go to the AEON Mall Shimoda in Oirase Town and decided that our first shrine visit would be one that we always pass by on our way to the mall. A small shrine called Kihi Shrine. 

次の日は元旦。家族でおいらせ町にあるイオンモール下田まで行くことに。そして初詣は途中にある神社へ参拝することに。それが氣比神社（きひじんじゃ）というところでした。

And then we went to the AEON Mall Shimoda where we had lunch. After that, we drove back home. 

初詣のあと、イオンモール下田に行って、フードコートでランチを食べて、その後、うちに帰った。

Ramen Shop [Jonetsu Billy] (closed) + Snow Shoveling / ラーメン処 「情熱ビリー」（閉店）と雪かき

As I was still pretty much a newbie to Aomori City at the beginning of 2018, there were still many ramen shops for us to try. One that was located not too far from our house was a place called [Jounetsu Billy]. I believe it's part of the [Zetton] chain. Theri main ramen is niboshi (broth made from sardines). 

２０１８年の１月、自分にとって靑森市はまだ新鮮な街。知らないところばっかりで、行って見たいラーメン屋も山ほどあった。その一つがうちの近くにある「情熱ビリー」。確か「絶豚」と同じ系列。煮干しがメイン。

Ｗe decided to go there one Saturday after work. 

ある土曜日に行ってきました。

That building is the tourist information center. It is located across from where I work. 

その建物は観光案内所。市営バスとJRバスの窓口でもある。

Still lots of snow in January in 2018. 

２０１８年の雪は多かったな。

I had the Baku Nibo (very strong sardine flavored broth) ramen. 

僕は爆ニボを注文。メニューに”しょっぱいは旨い”と書いてある。

My wife ordered the koku-uma miso ramen.

After returning home, we did a bit of snow shoveling as well. 

家に帰ったら、雪かきもちょっとしました。

Living in a winter wonderland ♬

Aomori Winter 2018 / 靑森冬 ２０１８年

I thought winter might be over this year but it snowed again this morning and it's already the fifth day into March. So, I decided to look back on the other winters my wife and I spent in Aomori to the differences. It appears to me that 2018 was the heaviest snowfall I've seen to date. 

冬がもう終わったと想ったら、昨日の夜また雪が降り、今朝は２時間くらい雪かきしました。東京から靑森に引っ越して、前の冬はどういう感じだったかを気になって、一番雪が多かったのは２０１８年の１月くらいだったと想う。

You can't see the guardrail at all yet. I have yet to make a slope to dump the snow.

Snow shoveling might be a chore to some but I actually enjoy it. And the winter scenery in Aomori City is beautiful. 

雪かきやがる人は大勢いると想いますが、僕は雪かきするのが結構好き。あと靑森の冬景色は最高。

I was still a novice at slope making but I learned from my mother-in-law and my own mistakes. 

まだ坂作りは下手な俺だったが、義母と自分が何回をやるうちに段々上手くなったと想う。
