Inakadate Rice Paddy Art 2017 / 田舎館村 田んぼアート ２０１７年

After moving to Aomori City from Tokyo, one of the first annual events I learned about was the rice paddy art in Inakadate Village. We decided to go and check it out.

東京から青森市に引っ越してから、青森県田舎館村で毎年行うイベントを知った。それが田んぼアート。青森県民になったもんで、見に行くべきと想った。

It looks like this year featured an Aomori brand rice - Seiten no Hekireki. 

今年は青森県産の米、青天の霹靂になってますね。

This gives you an idea of the scale of the art.

田んぼアートを見に来た僕と妻。

This is the Inadakadate Village Hall. You can see the rice paddy art from the observation deck. 

この建物は田舎館村の役場です。展望台から田んぼーアートが見れる場所。

But this only one site. There are two sites for the rice paddy art. The other is located at the Inakadate Roadside Station [Yayoi no Sato]. 

ですが、これが田んぼアートに第１会場。２ヶ所もあるので、第２会場は田舎館村道の駅「弥生の里」にある。

Oh, but in front of the Village Hall, a small market street was created. 

第２会場行く前に、役場の前に田んぼアート商店街が作られてた。

And now we are headed to the Inakadate Village Roadside Station to check out the other rice paddy art site. 

これから田舎館村道の駅で田んぼアート第２会場を目指す。

The rice paddy looks like a regular field from street level. 

ストリートレベルで普通の田んぼにしか見えない。

Do you see the two people in the parking lot. This gives you another idea of how large the rice paddy art is. 

駐車場に大人二人見えますか？それで田んぼアートの壮大なスケールが分かると想う。

Yes, I'm one of those people that just have to do this when confronted with one of these types of signs. 

はい、こういうの見かけると必ずやってしまう。

Rice Paddy art site #2 is of a Japanese folktale character, Momotaro. 

田んぼアート第２会場は日本昔話の桃太郎。

At Site #2 you can also check out the pebble art. Yep, image of Princess Diana using small pebbles. 

田んぼアート第２会場で石アートも楽しめる。一つはダイアナ妃。

This is popular Japanese actor Yujiro Ishihara.

日本の名優石原裕次郎。

It says, "So peaceful, a red dragonfly on Godzilla's nose.".

There's a small amusement park at the Inakadate Village Roadside Station where you can ride on a miniature locomotive. 

田舎館村道の駅に優遇施設もあり、そこでミニ電車に乗れる。

We decided to have lunch at the Roadside Station. The restaurant is called [Jaigo] which means "country bumpkin" in the Tsugaru dialect. 

道の駅にあるレストランでランチを食べることに。店の名前はレストラン「ジャイゴ」。津軽弁で田舎者という意味ですよ。

We both ordered the Yayoi ramen lunch set which included a small rice dish, salad, and some pickles. 

私たちが注文したのは弥生ラーメンセット。どんぶりもの、サラダとお新香付き。

Our lunch cost ￥1000. The rice paddy art uses ancient rice variety, at this restaurant, we blend the ancient rice grains with our ramen noodles. Please have a taste or so says the sign.

It was still fairly early in the afternoon, so my wife and I decided to go to the Aseishikawa Dam, but that will be for another post.
