Hanamaru Ramen / 華丸ラーメン

My wife has her favorite ramen shop in Aomori. It's called [Hanamaru]. Their main ramen is  yakiniboshi (grilled dried sardine). The smell isn't quite as strong as some other dried sardine based broths and has kind of a nostalgic flavor of a soy sauce based Chinese noodle. However, they also have something called Aniku (part of the pig thigh that contains most of the fat). Only seven to ten slices can be taken from a block of the pig thigh. Of course that is what I ordered.

自分の妻が青森市に一番好きなラーメン屋があります。それは問屋町にある「華丸ラーメン」です。焼き干しラーメンが店のウリ。焼干しとはイワシのはらわたと頭を取り、天日干しの後、炭火で焼くというものです。メニューにあ肉ラーメンもあります。自分も最初はあ肉ってなんだろと思い、店に壁に説明がありました。説明によると豚もも肉１ブロックから７～１０枚程した取れない、脂身の多いチャーシューのことです。もちろん僕はそれを注文した。

As I said, the broth is rather mild. The slices of char shu are large and flavorful. The ramen is also topped with green onions and young bamboo shoots. The noodles are regular size. You can also order a small, regular or large portion of the noodles.

先言ったようにつゆの味は結構優しい。あ肉のチャーシューは大きくて、柔らかい。脂身もたっぷり。あとはネギのメンマをトッピングされてます。麺は普通。太麺でもない、細麺でもない。丁度良いくらいです。店に麺の量も選べる。特大・大・中から選びます。特大は２玉、大は１・５玉と中は１玉。もちろん値段も異なりますけどね。

Golden Week Adventures 2019 Day 9 Family Grave Visit, Makiba Farm, the Tarapokki / ゴールデンウィーク冒険 ２０１９年 お墓参り、牧場ファームとたらぽっき

It's the last day of Golden Week. After today, I must go back to the regular grind. My wife and I、along with my mother-in-law, decided to go pay our respects to her grandmother and father before returning to life as usual. My wife's grandmother's grave is located at the Sannai Cemetery while her father's is located at the Hakkoda Cemetery.

ゴールデンウィーク最終日。明日から普通の生活に戻る。僕と妻と僕の義理の母はこの最後の日にやっぱりお墓参りに行くことを決めてた。山内霊園でおばあちゃんのお墓と八甲田霊園でお父さんのお墓に参りに行きました。

My wife asked her mother about a farm that was located nearby. Instead of just going home, we decided to do a bit of exploring.

妻が自分の母に八甲田霊園の近くにある牧場を話してたら、ちょっと行ってみた。

The signs says Rest House, "Ikoi no Makiba". It's a place to relax.

We decided to have lunch here as well.

ここでランチを食べることにした。

Ooh, gelato! We will probably have some for dessert.

おう、ジェラート！多分デザートで食べるでしょう。

The gelato is made fresh everyday.

ジェラートは毎日フレッシュで作られてます。

But first, what to order for lunch. At the top of the menu, it says "Makiba Restaurant serves fresh vegetables which have been harvested from our Matsuyama Herb Farm."

でも、その前に、ランチでなにを注文しようかな。メニューの上に書いてあるのは”牧場レストランは松山ハーブファームから収穫した新鮮な野菜使用です。”

The lunch set was served with a salad.

ランチセットはサラダ付。

My mother-in-law had the Farm Curry.

義理の母は農園カレーを注文。

My wife ordered the peperoncino with farm vegetables and garlic.

妻がペペロンチーノを注文して。中身は農園野菜とガーリック。

I noticed the restaurant had a wood burning stove and I was craving a pizza so I ordered their Margherita which is made with ham, mozzarella cheese and basil.

ピザ窯があったのを見て、やっぱりピザ食べたくなった。僕が注文したのはマルゲリータのピザ。

Yes, we had our desserts. My wife had the premium pistachio on the left while I ordered myself a lemon cheese.

もちろんデザートを食べましたよ。妻はプレミアムピスタチオ（左）、僕はレモンチーズ（右）をチョイス。

My mother-in-law loves rum raisin.

Back home, I enjoyed my last craft beer from Iwate Prefecture - a Namomi Beer.

家に帰って、最後の地ビールを飲んだ。岩手県のなもみビール。

As this was the last day of Golden Week, we also decided to go to a hot spring. It had been a while since we went to Tarapokki, so we went there to end our Golden Week holidays.

ゴールデンウィーク最終日でもあったし、やっぱり休みの〆は温泉ですね。久しぶりにタラポッキに行きました。

So ended a very nice Golden Week.

Golden Week Adventures 2019 Day 8 Road Trip to Ryusendo (Part 3) / ゴールデンウィーク冒険 ２０１９年 龍泉洞への旅 （パート３）

We headed into the town of Iwaizumi to find some place to eat. My wife did a little research and said the shotengai (market street), was very retro and there's a nice little cafe along it.

岩泉町の商店街を目指して、飲食店を探す。妻が事前に調べて、岩泉町の商店街はレトロの雰囲気で良さそうなカフェがあり。そこでランチを食べるつもり。

Hey, I think they're welcoming us to their town.

あっ、この二人が私たちを歓迎してくれてる。

I just took one look at this building and knew I was going to like the area.

この建物一目で見たら、この町の雰囲気が好きになるとわかってた。

Look, they even made a small Iwaizumi station.

I love these old buildings. You can tell this is a sake shop from the hanging straw ball thing.

I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich. My wife ordered the bagel.

僕は生ハムチーズサンドを注文。妻はベーグルを選びました。

While waiting for our order, I browsed around the cafe which also houses a gift shop.

注文を待ちながら、店内を探索。カフェだけじゃなく、ギフトショップにもなってる。

It was such a nice day, we decided to eat on the terrace.

天気が良かったので、テラスの席に座りました。

The sandwich is served with soup and a pickle and coleslaw.

After lunch we decided to casually check out the area. This place is called the Ureira Shotengai.

ランチを食べたあと、商店街をもうちょっと探索してみた。ここはうれいら商店街です。

Until about seventy years ago, these barrels were used to make miso.

ここにある樽は７０年ほど前まで味噌をつくっていました。

I spotted a temple nearby so we decided to check it out as well.

うれいら商店街の近くにお寺を発見、行ってみた。

That is Mount Ureira that looks down on the town.

Now it was time to make the long drive back to Aomori City.

そろそろ岩泉町から離れて、青森市に帰る時間になった。

On our way back, we spotted a shrine so made another side trip. This was the Unotori Shrine.

帰りの途中で良さそうな神社があって、寄っていった。神社の名前は鵜鳥神社（うのとりじんじゃ）。

The shrine was preparing for a festival to be held the following week.

神社が来週あたりのお祭りの準備をしてた。

I had to get my shrine seal from Unotori Shrine.

もちろん鵜鳥神社の御朱印をゲットしました。

We decided to drive back along the Sanriku coast and due to good timing, I was able to take a picture of the Sanriku Railway.

青森に戻ることで海沿いを走た。タイミング良く、三陸鉄道が上の橋を通って写真を撮れました。

We made another short stop at a place called Matsuiso Park.

また寄り道して、まついそ公園に行きました。

This area was used as a location site for the NHK drama "Ama-chan".

この辺はNHKドラマ”アマちゃん”のロケにもなった場所。

Now passing through an area that was affected by the tsunami of 2011.

いまが２０１１年の津波で被害にあった場所を通ってる。

The area is still in the process of recovering.

この場所はまだ復興中。

Namomi? It looks like a Namahage but apparently is a little different.

ナモミ？なまはげに似てるけど違うみたい。

It's Noda Village's version of the Namahage.

やっぱり野田村のなまはげですね。
