Blue Forest Chronicles: Cake & Coffee [Fifth (5th) Avenue] and New Year's Eve / ケーキ＆珈琲「五番街」と大晦日

Our first New Year's Eve in Aomori. As we are still unemployed, we made no plans on going out. We did do a little shopping to look for some sparkling wine to toast the new year though. My mother-in-law didn't have to work until later in the evening so she joined us in our excursion. On our way home, my mother-in-law treated us to some dessert at another one of my wife's favorite sweets shop called [Fifth Avenue]. My father would love this place.

青森初の大晦日。私たちはまだ無職なので、予定は全然ありません。ワインだけを買い行った。義理の母はカウントダウンの為仕事は夜遅くから始まるので一緒に買い物に付き合ってくれました。帰りに妻の好きなスウィーツの店で義理の母がご馳走してくれた。店の名前は「五番街」。僕のお父さんならここは絶対気入りと思う。

妻は段々雪道に慣れてきたみたい。

In the background is Moya Hills, a popular ski area in Aomori.

写ってる山はモヤヒルズ。青森の人気なスキー場がその山にあります。

Fifth Avenue was pushing a new item. Madeleines with azuki beans. They cost 130yen each but I was given one as service.

五番街の新作、小豆入りのマドレーヌ。一個１３０円。なぜか店員が１個サービスで僕にくれた。

We decided to have our desserts at the shop itself.

私たちは店でケーキを食べました。

It was nice and warm in this room with the fire in the stove.

まきストーブのおかげでこの部屋は凄い温かい。

My wife chose the banana cream pie. A favorite of my father as well.

妻が選んだのはバナナクリームパイ。僕のお父さんもバナナクリームパイは大好きだ。

My mother-in-law ordered the blueberry pie.

義理の母が注文したのはブルーベリーパイ。

While I chose the pumpkin cake which was very delicious.

僕が選んだのはカボチャケーキ。これは絶品でした。

We got back home in time for me to capture this sunset scene from my den.

帰ったらちょうど僕の書斎からこの眺めが見えた。

We also had a really informal New Year's dinner at my sister-in-law's house with sushi, chanwan mushi, nimono and we also ate our toshikoshi soba there as well.

大晦日は義理の妹の家で軽く寿司、煮物と茶碗蒸しを食べた。あと年越しそばも。
