Last month when we went to Owani Town, we decided to follow the road and found ourselves entering Akita Prefecture. This time we stopped by a place we had planned to check out on a previous outing. We stopped at the Nagabashiri Wind Caves Alpine Plant Communities. An interesting and free point of interest. 

先月大鰐町を去ったあと、道をそのまま走り続けてら、秋田県に入った。以前も探索したい場所があって、今回その場所に行ってみました。それが長走風穴高山植物群落です。面白いだけじゃなく、入場無料が魅力的ですね。

Here is something we didn't have to worry about in Tokyo. A "Beware of Bears" sign. A bear was spotted around 11:00am on May 12 of this year. You really want to avoid the bears in Akita Prefecture as they have been known to attack and eat humans.

東京で絶対心配することのない表示ですね。熊が５月１２日、朝１１時に目撃された。秋田の熊は怖いよ。人襲うことも毎年にニュースで聞く。

There is an area where you can experience how cool the wind caves are. 

一ヶ所で風穴はどのぐらい涼しいが体験出来る。

It was 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) in here.

今日、この風穴の中はＣ１５度でした。Ｆの約５９度くらいになる。

There are (or were) seven storage areas on this mountain. The pictures shows the first one. 

この山に７つの冷蔵倉庫があり、写真に載ってるのは１号の倉庫です。

Check the outside temperature. When we visited the wind caves, it was 31.2 degrees C, that's 88.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Here, inside the wind cave, it was only 2.2 degrees C, about 36 degrees Fahrenheit. 

温度をよく見て。この日、外の気温は３１．２度でした。逆に風穴の中は２．２度だけ。

Now, it was time to make the drive back home. 

さて、これから家に戻る時間になりました。

Owani Town / 大鰐町

Last month, our main objective of going to Owani Town was to eat at the sweets shop [Schwarzwald]. After we had dessert, we then went out for lunch. We decided to eat at the restaurant located inside the Owani Town Regional Exchange Center [Wani-come]. 

先月の大鰐日帰り旅行のメインの目的はスウィーツショップの「シュバルツバルト」でした。デザートを食べ終わってから、ランチを食べに行った。大鰐町地域交流センター「鰐come」の中にあるレストランに行ってきた。

The name of the restaurant we went to is called [Hana Ringo]. One of their specialties is a ramen topped with Owani Onsen Moyashi (a type of bean sprout). I ordered the Special of the Day, miso ramen topped with Owani Onsen bean sprouts and an onsen tamago. I think my wife just ordered the shoyu ramen. 

店の名前は「花りんご」。大鰐の名物の言えば大鰐温泉もやし。僕が注文したのは今日の日替わりランチ、大鰐温泉もやし入り温玉、肉味噌ラーメン。妻は確か醤油ラーメンを頼んだ。

It was such a nice day, we decided to drive around town. My wife mentioned that there was a place called the Ishi-no-to (Tower of Stone) so I suggested why don't we aim for there. 

凄い良い天気だったので、大鰐町周辺でドライブしました。妻が事前に大鰐町を調べたときに、町郊外で石の塔という場所があり、僕が、じゃ、そこを目指そうと言った。

We spotted some paragliders in the distance.

As we continued to drive, we came upon the Hayaseno Dam. 

ドライブを続きましたたら早瀬野ダムに辿り着いた。

If you look closely, you can see the river on the right side of the road. 

良く見れば、道の右側に川が見えます。

I believe those buildings are related to the dam as well. 

奥にある建物も早瀬野ダム関係でしょう。

We decided to follow the road the followed the river. Well, it was the only road there and we were still following the signs to the Tower of Stone. 

川沿いの道に進みました。ま、この道以外に別の道路はありません。まだ石の塔のサインをフォローしてた。

We were following the road along the Nijikai River.

私たちが虹貝川沿いの道に進んだ。

I had my wife stop the car a few times so I could get out and take pictures of the river. We finally came to a narrow bridge and saw a sign that said the Tower of Stone was still another four kilometers away. There isn't a road to the Tower of Stone so we would have to hike for about twenty or thirty minutes to get there. We decided to give up the pursuit and returned the way we came. 

妻に所々を車を止めてとお願いして、車から降りて、川の景色の写真を撮る為に。川を渡る狭い橋まで来て、妻が不安そうな顔してた。石の塔まであと４キロ。でも車で石の塔まではいけない。また２０分から３０分をハイキングしなきゃいけない。橋を渡らず、石の塔まで行くのも断念。ここで引き返した。

This is the sign to let us know what the name of the dam was. 

この表示のおかで、ダムの名前が知った。

The small white building is the dam management office. There was no one there at the time we passed by. 

白い建物はダムの管理所。通ったときに誰一人も居なかった。

After we crossed the dam, it was then I saw a sign that said the road was closed as it the roads were not well maintained. After getting back on the main road, my wife remembered an English phrase which she thought was appropriate and said, "Whew, what a relief!" She was pretty nervous driving along the very narrow road. Instead of heading back to Owani Town, we went in the opposite direction to see where the road would take us. 

ダムの道に渡ったあと、自分があるサインを目にした。ダムの道を通らない下さいと書いてあった！妻も通常の道路に戻った時点で、英語で”ひゅ～、ワット・ア・リリーフ”と言った。あの川沿いの狭い道を緊張しながらずーと運転してたんだ。大鰐町に戻ることもなく、逆方向に進みました。

The direction we went led us directly to the Ikarigaseki Road Station [Tsugaru Sekinosho].

道を進むと碇ヶ関道の駅「津軽 関の庄」に辿り着いた。

This is the "Sekinosho", it was a checkpoint used during the Edo era between the Tsugaru Domain and current day Akita Prefecture. There was a guardhouse near the gate as well. We didn't check it out this time but there is a replica of the guardhouse complete with life-sized figures that gives you a little history of the area. 

これが「関の庄」。近くに関所資料館があり、関所の面番所を移築。藩政時代の武具・古文書などを展示している。また、人形を使って当時の厳しい取調べ風景を再現している。以前この道の駅に来た時に見ましたので、今回関所を訪ねませんでした。

We did stop for some snacks though. 

でもちょっと軽食を食べた。

My wife and I shared some takoyaki topped with a mentaiko mayonaisse sauce.

妻と明太マヨのたこ焼きをシェアしました。

Since I don't do any of the driving, I treated myself to a Monban no Ippuku Marumero Beer. 

自分は運転しないので門番の一服マルメロビールを飲んだ。

After our short rest, we still didn't head home. We went in the direction of Akita Prefecture but that will be for a another post. 

休憩したあと、家のまた逆方面に走り、秋田県を目指した、でもその話はまた今度。

Schwarzwald / シュバルツバルト

Today, I decided to write about a more recent trip my wife and I took. Last month, we went on a drive to Owani Town. One of my students had recommended a sweets shop called [Schwarzwald] which is located there. 

今日はもうちょっとタイムリーなネタを書こうと思ってます。先月のくらいの週末にドライブに出かけた。目的地は大鰐。僕の生徒が教えてるくれた情報をもとに行ってきました。教えてくれたのは大鰐町にあるスーツショップ「シュバルツバルト」を目指した。

We got to the shop at 11am, just when it opened. 

店に到着したのは朝１１時。丁度開店の時間でした。

This is the interior of the shop. The name of the place was taken from an area in Germany. 

店内の様子。店の名前の由来はドイツにある地名からとったものです。

The place had a high ceiling. 

天井が高い。

I chose the item in the middle, the ￥1020 dessert. The name of the dish is the Schwarzwalder Kirsch Special. It includes two items. The first is an apple mint and yogurt soup, chilled of course. The main dessert is the Black Forest cherry cake with pistachio ice cream. The dessert is made with kirsch which is "a clear colorless brandy, traditionally made from the double distillation of Morello cherries, a dark colored cultivar of the sour cherry."

自分が選んだのは”シュバルツバルダーキルシュスペシャル”。２品仕立てです。一品はアップルミントとヨーグルトスープ。もちろん冷やしてるスープです。メインは黒い森のチェリーケーキとピストチオアイスクリーム。ドイツシュバルツバルト地方に伝わる伝統のお菓子、特産のサワーチェリー（キルッシュ）をふんだんに使い。。。店の名物。 

This is the menu but my wife ordered the special which is listed. 

これが店のメニューですが、妻は本日のスペシャルを注文して、メニューには載ってない。

My wife ordered this seasonal dish - a melon sherbet. She said it was quite delicious. 

妻が注文したのは季節限定のメロンシャーベット。とっても美味しいと言ってました。

This is the apple mint and yogurt soup. It was quite interesting and very good too. 

これがアップルミントとヨーグルトのスープ。新しい味の感覚。でも結構美味しかった。

The Black Forest Cherry Cake. What can I say but awesome! And I love pistachio ice cream as well!

黒い森のチェリーケーキ。言うことなし、最高！！そしてピスタチオが好物の俺、ピスタチオアイスクリームもたまらない。

I had already told my wife that today's dessert would be my treat. When I went to pay, I only had a couple of 10,000yen bills on me. The cashier, who must have been the owner's mother, said she didn't have change right now. The total cost was about 2800yen. My wife had 1000 yen bill and I was going to say that I could change the money at the nearby Owani Town Regional Exchange Center, but she just put her finger to her lips and said one thousand yen was okay!! We felt bad but thought she might get in trouble by her son if we came back to pay for the rest of our bill. 

僕が妻にデザートは僕のおごりと言ってましたので、お支払いの時に１万冊しかなかった。店の店員（多分オーナーのお母さんと思うけど）が今おつりがない。会計は￥２８００くらいだったので、ちょっと高額。僕が近くの大鰐町地域交流センターで領外して戻ろうかと提案する前に、妻が１０００冊をだした。あたから戻るつもりでしがが、そのお母さんが内緒で１０００円で良いと言われた。金を領外して戻っても、息子に怒られる可能性もあり、そのまま店を去った。心がちょっと痛む感じでした。

We will definitely go back here again and try one of the other menu items. I will be sure to have smaller bills on me the next time we visit. 

もちろんまたこの店に来ると思います。そしてまた別のものを注文する。あとは１０００冊を持ってる様に行くと忘れない様にする。
