Shouhouji Temple / 照法寺

It was my first summer as a resident of Aomori City. Our school decided to close during the Nebuta Festival which is held a week before the Obon holidays. I took the opportunity to explore more of my new neighborhood. I heard the temple bells for New Year's but Kendoji Temple didn't have a bell and neither to the shrines close to our house. But then I noticed, there was another temple on a different hill across from Kendoji Temple. I decided to go check it out. It would make for a nice walk outside too. 

青森市民で初の夏を過ごす。僕が働いてる英会話学校がお盆ではなく、ねぶたの時期で休校してました。妻は相変わらず仕事だったので、うちの近所を探索しようと思った。大晦日にどっかの寺が鐘を鳴らしてたので、最初は見道寺と思ったが、見道寺に鐘がありません。近くの神社でもないし、どこから鳴らしたんだろうと思った。見道寺の向かいの丘に別のお寺があるんじゃないか。やっぱり探索しみるべき。天気も良いし、良い散歩になるんだろう。

Hydrangeas in bloom. 

あじさいが咲いてます。

A small shrine housing the enmei jizo (life-prolonging jizo). If you look closely, you can see my reflection on the bottom right of the window of the shrine. Almosts looks like one of those ghost photos. 

歩いたら南無延命地蔵堂があった。写真をよく見ると窓に自分の姿が反射してる。心霊写真みたいな感じになってる。

It seems like I was walking along a hydrangea path. 

あじさいロードを歩いてる感じでした。

This looks to be a small shrine to the Eight Dragon Kings. 

これが南無八大龍王に関係するものみたいですね。

I continued walking up the hill enjoying the hydrangeas. 

あじさいを楽しみながら段々道を上って行く。

So this is the temple bell that makes all that we hear on New Year's Day. 

大晦日で聴いてる鐘はこのお寺の鐘でしたね。

It's called the Shourou-do. 

鐘楼堂というだ。

I met the abbot of the temple who invited me to look inside. 

照法寺の住職と会って、彼が中に入って下さいと丁寧に声をかけた。

Of course I received my temple seal. 

もちろん御朱印を貰いました。

Later that evening, my mother-in-law said one of the cruise ships was at port in Aomori so we went on a little night drive to check it out. 

夜になったら義理の母が青森に今豪華客船が来てるから見に行かないっかと言われ、ちょっとしたドライブにでかけた。

The cruise ships look really cool at night.

夜の豪華客船は格好いい。

At port in Aomori City was the Diamond Princess. 

青森に来た客船はダイヤモンドプリンセス。
