今日から２０１８年６月、里帰りの旅のネタを書き下ろします。この年で実家に帰るのは４年ぶりでした。
Now that we live in Aomori City, we cannot just take the train to Narita Airport and fly back to Seattle. First, we must go to Tokyo from Aomori. As my wife was nervous about flights being cancelled, we decided to take the shinkansen, otherwise known as the bullet train from Aomori to Tokyo. All the regular reserved seat cars were taken but there were still a few Green Car seats left, the Green Car being First Class. We had planned on going back to the States for the past two or three years and didn't want to postpone our trip any longer so we splurged a bit and bought Green Car tickets.
もう青森市に住んでますから、東京から直接成田空港まで行くことが出来ない。最初は青森市から東京までの交通手段を考えなきゃいけなかった。妻は航空便の欠航が心配で、私たちは青森から東京行きは新幹線で行きました。普通席がもう満席になり、最初はどうしようと思った。まだグリーン車の席が空いてましたが、仕方なく今回はちょっと贅沢しました。二年も里帰りの旅が延期になったので、今年こそはどうしてもアメリカに帰りたかった。

We splurged just a little for Green Car seats.
旅の始まりからちょっと贅沢。
And what's the best thing about traveling by train? Buying and eating an ekiben of course. Eki is the Japanese word for "station" and ben is short for bento or lunchbox. I chose a meat and fish bento. The newspaper wrapped around my bento describes the contents in the Tsugaru dialect.
電車の旅って一番良いことはなにと思います？それは駅弁でしょう。僕が選んだのは津軽海峡懐かしいの”にぐ・さがな”弁当。弁当に巻いてる新聞を良く見ると、弁当の中身が説明されてる。。。津軽弁で！
My wife chose something called the "Kaisen Kowappa". You can see from the package that it is a seafood bento.
妻が選んだのは”海鮮小わっぱ”。パッケージに書いてあるのあ、”たっぷり使った海の幸、ぜいたくな美味しさです。”
I see salmon roe, sea urchin, crab, and seaweed. It's all topped on rice. Another bit of luxury.
ご飯の上にイクラ、ウニ、蟹と海藻だ。やっぱり結構な贅沢だ。

Now awaiting our flight at Narita Airport. One of my regular traditions is to have a start of trip beer before hopping on a plane. As we were eating Thai food, I decided to treat myself to a Singha beer.
成田空港に到着。こんどはうちの便を待つしかないので、タイ料理を食べに行きました。タイ料理を食べることで、自分はタイを代表するビールのシンハを飲みました。

Snack time. These days I no longer have the desire to drink alcohol as much as I used to. I had a tomato juice with my snacks.
スナックタイム。最近は飛行機に乗ってもあんまり酒を飲みたいと思えない。自分はトマトジュースを飲んだ。

Dinner time on the plane. I chose the chicken.
機内食の時間。自分はチキンを選びました。
Ice cream time. Total flight time from Tokyo to Seattle is eight hours.
アイスの時間。東京からシアトルまでは約８時間。
We're nearing Seattle. Time for breakfast.
シアトルに近づいた。朝食の時間だ。

My sister picked us up at the airport.
妹が空港まで迎えに来てくれました。
My sister asked me, "What do you want to do first?" And I unhesitatingly replied, "I want some fast food Mexican! Let's go to Tijuana Taco!" My sister said, "Are you serious?" Of course, I'm serious. You can't find decent fast food Mexican in Japan, especially not in Aomori City. So we went to Tijuana Taco before dropping going home to my parents house.
妹が”最初はなにしたい？”と聞かれたので、素早く”ファストフードメキシカンが食べたい！ティファナ・タコに行こう！”。妹がちょっとびっくりした顔で、”マジ？” マッジっす！だって日本で美味しいファーストフードメキシカンがないもん。青森市にはとくにない！それでティファナ・タコに直行。
I used to frequent this place when I was in high school. I didn't only go for the food, but one of my classmates worked there and I thought she was really cute. I only went here to see her.
高校時代に良くこの店に来てました。別にメキシカン料理を食べるためではなく、学校の同級性がここでバイトしてた。その同級性も超可愛いから彼女を会いに来た。
Just sitting in Tijuana Taco made me feel like, damn, I'm in America!

Ooh, and tater tots! No! They're Mexican fries!! I think they were called Mexifries at Taco Bell.
おう、テイタートッツ！いえ！これまメキシカンフライズ！！確かタコ・ベルでメキシフライという名前だったな。
It was such a nice day, we went for a little drive. First to Steilacoom. This building is the former Waverly by the Sea and E.R. Rogers restaurant. One of my friend's used to work here when it was E.R. Rogers back in high school.
天気が凄い良かったので、ちょっとしたドライブに出かけた。隣町のスティラクームに行った。この建物は旧Waverly by the Seaと旧E.R. Rogersというレストランでした。高校時代一人の友達がE.R.Rogersでバイトしてたな。

Then we went to a shop of my wife's request - Trader Joe's.
次は妻のリクエストでトレイダー・ジョーズに行きました。
We also made a pit stop at Wholefoods Market.
そのあとはホール・フーズ・マーケット。
My sister saw this ice cream trailer shop called [Bliss] and said we definitely need to stop there and have some ice cream.
妹が移動式アイスの店「ブリス」を見て、私たちに絶対行くべきアイスの店と言われ、アイスを食べに行った。
A line formed as soon as it opened.

The Bair Drug & Hardware shop. In the back is a soda fountain. The interior is something right out of the '50s. Unfortunately, it was closed when we went there.
ベアドラッグ＆ハードウェア。店内はまるで５０年代のアメリカって感じ。店の奥にソーダファウンテンもあり、結構お洒落。残念ながら、もう閉店でした。
ベアドラッグストアは１８９５年創業。

This place holds a special significance for me and my wife. It is the Steilacoom Town Hall. It is here where we had our wedding back in February of 2006. On Valentine's Day to be exact.
この建物は特別の思い出があります。このビルはスティラクーム・タウン・ホール。２００６年に私たちの結婚式がここであげました。２月１４日、バレンタインデーでした。
We are still happily married and still feel like newlyweds!
いまでも幸せに結婚してますので、毎日は新婚さんの気分です！
I told my mother not to worry about making dinner this evening as I wanted to go out and eat and see some friends as well. I would be meeting my friends here at the Steilacoom Pub & Grill around 7:30pm.
自分のお母さんに夕飯は作らなくて良い。外で食べて、友達と会う。選んだ場所はスティラクーム・パブ＆グリル。少人数の友達が七時半に会う。
The two people with my sister is my brother's friend Jim and his wife Norma. They happened to be in town from Los Angeles around the same time my wife and I were visiting home. Unfortunately, my brother was unable to meet up with his old classmate and friend.
妹と写ってる二人は丁度カリフォルニア州のロスからタコマに来ていた。彼は自分の兄の同級性です。残念ながら兄は不参加でした。
All four of us are just visitors.
私たち四人はビジターです。
And we mustn't forget the food. A lot of friend foods tonight!!
