My Mother's Visit (Day 1) / 母の訪問 （初日）

A week after my sister's visit, my mother was in Japan and she came to see us as well. She came to Aomori by shinkansen on a Saturday night. Our plan for the following day was to go to Misawa Air Base. As my father is retired military and my mother also has a military ID, we can go on base as her sponsor. My mother said she wanted to take us shopping at the BX (base exchange, military department store) and the commissary (military supermarket).

妹がアメリカに帰り、その翌週に自分のお母さんが私たちを会いに来てくれました。新幹線で土曜の夜に到着、明日の予定は三沢基地行き。自分のお父さんは元米軍のため、自分の母も米軍基地に出入りすることが可能。私たちをゲストとして、一緒に行くことになった。基地の中にBX（米軍用のデパート）とカミサリー（米軍用のスーパーマーケット）に連れてくれると言ってくれた。

Mom in Aomori / お母さん青森到着

On our way to Misawa Air Base. It's only been one week since my sister was here but a lot of the snow has already melted.

三沢基地行き。妹がアメリカに帰ってたった一週間後で雪が段々溶けてる。

Before going to the base, we decided to take my mother to one of the many Roadside Stations. So our first stop was at the Lake Ogawa Road Station. My mother was like a little kid checking out all the local goods.

三沢基地に行くまえに、うちのお母さんを道の駅に連れてあげった。最初に行ったのは小川湖の道の駅。自分のお母さんが店内でこどもみたいにいろいろ見回ってた。

Seeing a D.O.D. school on base reminds me of my own elementary school years growing up on a military base.

基地の中の学校を見ると自分の小学校時代を思い出す。自分も小学校一年性から四年生までは基地の中の学校に通ってた。

The best thing about military bases for a civilian? The food court with American fast food companies! I knew I was going to have lunch here and I was happy to see they had a Taco Bell!

自分が基地の中で一番楽しみにしたのはやっぱりアメリアのファストフードの店があること。タコ・ベルを見てテンションが超あがった。

Unlike the branch in Shibuya, this one has the original American menu. I decided to have a 5-layer burrito.

渋谷に一軒のタコ・ベルがありますが、やっぱりメニューが違いますね。基地の中のメニューはアメリカと一緒。今日こそ５レイヤーブリットたべるぞ！

But what's this? Charleys Philly Steaks. Hm, a Philly steak sandwich sounds good too! I think I'll order one of those as well.

でもこの店はなんだ？チャーリーズ？おう、フィリ・ステーキサンドの店だ！これもたべようかな。

Today's lunch was a 5 layer burrito, a triple bacon steak sandwich! Also ordered some fries topped with cheese and bacon.

On our way back to Aomori, we stopped at another Roadside Station. This time in Shichinohe where we treated my mom to some soba flavored ice-cream.

帰りの道はまた別の道の駅によって、お母さんにそばアイスを食べさせた。

For dinner, we went to a conveyor belt sushi shop.  I was still full from lunch that only I had maybe three plates.

夕飯は家の近くにある回転寿司の店。自分はまだランチで満腹のため、三皿しか食べなかった。

Tomorrow, we will take our mother to the Sukayu Hot Spring.

明日は八甲田山の近くにある酸ヶ湯温泉に行きます。
