Last Sunday, my wife and I, along with my mother-in-law decided to go to the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture. My wife and I explored this area four years ago. We went to the Namahage Museum, Shinzan Shrine, Nyudozaki Lighthouse, Hachibodai Observation Deck, Akagami Shrine, we checked out the Godzilla Rock, and went to Kanpuzan. We also stopped at a couple of Roadside Station. The only place we didn't go to and which the Oga Peninsula is known for was the Oga Aquarium GAO. So this trip, our main destination would be the aquarium.
この間の日曜日、僕と妻と義理の母３人で秋田県男鹿半島に行きました。４年前僕と妻だけが行って、男鹿半島の観光名所をほぼ達成した。真山神社、なまはげ館、入道崎灯台、ハ望台、赤神神社五社堂、ゴジラ岩をみて、寒風山も行って。あとは２つの道の駅も行った。唯一行ってなかった観光名所は男鹿水族館GAO。今回のメインの目的地はその推測館です。
Although we made a short stop at the Ikarigaseki Roadside Station, it was still early so all the shops were closed. Our next stop was at the Futatsui Roadside Station [Kimimachi no Sato] in Akita Prefecture.
靑森県のいかりがせき道の駅「津軽関の庄」に寄りましたが、時間はまだ早くて、どの店もまだ開店してなかった。次に寄った道の駅は二ツ井町にあるふたつい道の駅「きみまちの里」。
"Koibun no Post" which translates to "Love Letter Mailbox". A love mailbox? It looks like an old-style Japanese mailbox to me.
”恋文のポスト”。なんだこれ？普通に昔の日本のポストにしか見えないけど。
Ah, I see. In Meiji 14 (1881), Emperor Meiji received a letter from his wife (Kougou which means Empress) when he was visiting this area, he was so impressed with the beauty of the place that he named it "Koubou" whose kanji can also be read as kimimachi.
And just so you know, Kimi Machi can also be translated to mean "Waiting for you". So now you know.
We've reached our destination and it's only 10:00am. It took us about four hours - just as we thought. That small white building in the distance is a lighthouse.
目的地に到着。まだ朝１０時。６時に出発して、予想通りの４時間のドライブでした。奥に見える白い建物は灯台です。
We are looking out to the Sea of Japan.
目の前に見えてるのは日本海です。
This memorial was dedicated to a 38 year old Swiss woman and others who died in the resulting tsunami from the the 1983 Sea of Japan earthquake.
この慰霊碑は１９８３年日本海中部地震の津波で亡くなったスイス出身の女性とために立てられたものです。
Interesting bits of information. The aquarium we are going to is the only one in Akita Prefecture.
へ～、男鹿水族館GAOは秋田県唯一の水族館だって。
There it is - the Oga Aquarium GAO.
その建物が男鹿水族館GAOです。
Once you enter the building, the first thing you will see is a really large tank.
ビルに入ったら、最初目にするのは大きな水槽。
You can see the silouette of a person on the left which will gives you an idea of how large this particular tank is.
左下で見える人のシルエットでこの水槽の大きさが伝わると想う。
I think this picture will give you an even better idea of how large the tank is.
この写真のほうが水槽の大きさをもっとわかりやすく伝わると想う。

There is a manta swimming between me and my mother-in-law.

Mantas are cool.

I was lucky enough to capture the sea turtle on a video clip.
運良く、泳いでるウミガメの動画が撮れた。
We also walked right under the sea turtle.
ウミガメの真下で歩いた。
We must have spent about a half hour just standing in front of the huge tank and this is only the beginning.
あの大きな水槽の前でほぼ３０分くらい居たかも。それにしも見るものがまだまだある。
Well, this is a funky looking critter.
この生き物も不思議。
Oh, it's a Deepsea Spiny King Crab.
おう、イガグリガニという蟹だ。
One of my wife's favorite types of crab to eat - the hairy crab.
妻が一番美味しいという蟹はこの毛蟹だ。
Oh my, this looks like an alien. My wife says it reminds her of Ultra 7.
うわ！ エイリエンみたい。妻がなんかウルトラセブンに似てると言った。
In English, this little critter is called a Long Spined Porcupine Fish.
この魚はハリセンボンという。
Giant Japanese Crab / タカアシガニ
An interesting tank. Inside, you will find Japanese Horse Mackerel, Genuin Porgy, and Bulgyhead Wresse.
面白い水槽。この中にある魚はマアジ、マダイとコブダイ。
Wow, a blue frog! It looks kind of green in the picture but I assure you it was pretty blue.
おう、青い蛙。写真じゃもっと緑に見えるけど、実際は本当に青かった。

This guy wasn't alive but it's a Tasmanian Giant Crab, also known as Giant Deepwater Crab, Giant Southern Crab, and Queen Crab.
生きてはいないけどこれはタスマニアンオオガニです。

Well here's an animal you usually see at the zoo, not at the aquarium - a polar bear!
おう、この動物は水族館ではなく普通に動物園で見る。でも男鹿水族館GAOに北極熊が居る！
It was such a hot day, it's no wonder the bear was swimming in the pool.
今日は非常に暑かったからプールで泳ぐのも理解出来る。
That's a pretty big bear.
結構大ですよ。

An announcement said it will soon be time for the seal and sea lion feeding time.
館内のアナウスでアザラシとアシカの餌あげの時間が近づいてるから、そっちのほうに行ってみた。
It was time to brush their teeth.
歯磨きの時間だった。
Next, we went to check out the jellyfish.
次探索したのはクラゲ。
They look like little aliens.
小さなエイリエンみたい。
Look, American colors - red, white, and blue.
見て！アメリカの国旗の色ー赤、白と青。
And then we went to see the penguins.
その次はペンギンたちを見に行った。
We then went to see the polar bears again.
そのあとまた北極熊を会いに行った。
I think this was grown by a local farmer. A 90.6 kg (almost 200 lbs) watermelon.
現地の農家が作ったと想うスイカ。なんと９０．６キロです。デッカイ！！
Back to the polar bear again.
また北極熊が居るところに戻った。

Yellow and black frogs - they're the yellow-banded poison dart frog that live in the northern part of South American, most notably in Venezuela.
黄色と黒の帰る。日本語でキオビヤドクガエル。南米の北部に生息してる。主にベネズエラ。あとはガイヤナ、コロンビア東部とブラジル北部。
And here we are back near the entrance.
そして入り口の近くに戻りました。
And so ended our adventure at the aquarium. Time to grab a bite to eat somewhere. Of course our travels will continue...
それで男鹿水族館ＧＡＯの探索が終了しました。次やることはどっかでランチを食べる。旅はもちろんつづく。。。
