Hachinohe Canyon and Tenshokotaijingu / 八戸キャニオンとて天照皇大神大神宮

As we were heading to our next destination, we made another side trip. We saw a sign for the Hachinohe Canyon Observatory which overlooks Hachinohe Mine. We decided to take a look.

次の目的地に向かう途中また気になる場所があった。八戸キャニオン展望台だった。まだ時間たっぷりあったので、行ってみた。

Hachinohe Mine is a huge open pit limestone quarry. It is the lowest point in Japan at 170 meters (561 ft) below sea level. The quarry measures 1000 meters (3281 ft) east to west, and 1800 meters (5905 ft) from north to south. 

八戸鉱山は露天掘りの鉱山である。石灰石を採掘しており、現在でも操業中である。八戸キャニオンと呼ばれてる。人工ではあるものの日本一標高が低い（陸地上の）地点が存在する。その深さは海抜約-１７０ｍ。鉱区の幅南北に約２ｋｍ、東西に約１．２km。

Those are three very large dump trucks pictured on the left. 

左側に大なダンプカー３台もある。

This gives you an idea of the size of the dump trucks. The tires are used for 90 ton dump trucks. 

このタイヤでダンプカーのサイズが分かるかも。９０ｔダンプトラック使用たいや。

As we left the canyon, we passed a shrine where we saw this golden torii.

八戸キャニオンを去ったあと、ある神社でこのゴールデン鳥居を発見。見に行くしたない。

 

The name of the shrine is Tenshokotaijingu. 

神社の名前は天照皇大神大神宮。

After this, we went to our next destination. A museum that I wanted to check out. Fortunately, I have a very understanding wife so she indulged me in my request. 

次こど自分が一番行きたがってた場所に行く。ある博物館です。妻が良き僕の理解者でもあり、文句１つ言えず、僕のわがままに付き合ってくれた。
