It was a weekend in June in 2017 when my wife and I decided to drive to Hachinohe. Our goal was to go to the Kabushima Shrine and see the black-tailed gulls.
２０１７年の夏。６月の週末僕と妻はドライブに出かけて、目的は八戸にある蕪島。目指すのは蕪島神社とウミネコを見ること。

夏の田んぼ。
On our way to Hachinohe, we made a short stop at the Shinohe Roadside Station. Here, you will find a statue of a couple of horses. The one pictured above is Fair Win that won the Japan Derby in 1962.
八戸に行く途中、七戸道の駅に寄って行きました。外に２頭の馬のオブジェが設置されてる。上記の馬はフェアウィン、１９６２年日本ダービーを優勝した馬です。
This horse is called Hikaru Meiji, it won the Japan Derby in 1957.
この馬はヒカルメイジ、１９５７年日本ダービー優勝した馬です。
On the left is a soba-flavored soft serve. On the right is chocolate.
左にあるのはそばアイス。右は普通のチョコ。
More rice fields.
田んぼ結構あるね。
There are a bunch of factories along the coast in Hachinohe.
八戸の海岸沿いに工場が結構並び立ってる。
There is Kabushima in the distance. There is a shrine on top of the hill.
蕪島に近づいた。丘の上に神社があります。
Kabushima is well known for being an area where black-tailed gulls gather.
蕪島で有名なのはやっぱりこのウミネコ。
A couple of girls running away from the birds.
ウミネコが逃げ回る少女たち。
A couple of years earlier, there was a fire at the shrine so the hill is closed off while reparations continue.
２０１５年に蕪島に火事があり、今でも上まで登ることが出来ません。

The birds are raising their chicks so don't step inside this area.
This is pretty much as close as we can get to the shrine.
神社はここから見ることしか出来ない。
You will just have to settle for a picture of the shrine until it reopens.
神社の修理が終わるまで、この写真で我慢するしかない。
This bird decided to follow my wife.
このウミネコが妻に興味あるみたい。

鳥、鳥と更に鳥。
I had to get my shrine seal from Kabushima Shrine.
神社の仮場所があって、蕪島神社の御朱印をゲット。
Kabushima Shrine also does a monthly seal as well.
蕪島神社は毎月限定の御朱印もやってます。
On our way home, we passed by Same Station. If you know your Japanese, you would no the kanji for same at this station means "shark".
帰りのドライブで鮫駅を通った。

鮫駅だから鮫のオブジェもある。

メイプルふれあいセンターと書いてある。
We stopped by the Rokunohe Roadside Station.
六戸道の駅にも行きました。
Rokunohe is advertising their town as "Vegetable Land".
I love these old-style houses. This is the former Tomabechi residence.
僕はこういう民家が大好き。ここは旧苫米地家住宅。
The house looks larger on the inside than it does from the outside.
家の中は外より広く見える。
An old sewing machine.
昔のミシン。
There's just something about a hearth in the living room that give the room character.
自分だけかもしりませんがやっぱり囲炉裏があると部屋は結構お洒落に見える。

壷釜。炊飯や湯沸かしで使う道具。

Spinach donuts? Well, of course I had to try them.
ほうれん草ドーナッツ？もちろん食べてみるしかない。
They were actually pretty good.
結構旨かったよ。
So ended our adventure.
そして今日の冒険の幕が閉じた。
