School's New Year Party at [Chao's] / 居酒屋・レストラン「ちゃおず」で学校の新年会

On Sunday, January 25 at 5:30pm, our school sponsored a New Year's Party for the students. Including us teachers and our office manager, ten people participated. As it's a school event, of course we did a game in English. Our office manager chose a place called [Chao's] which is an izakaya and restaurant. 

先月、１月２５日（日曜日）、うちの学校が生徒のために新年会を開きました。講師２人、オフィスマネージャーとマネージャーの息子を含め、計１０人が参加しました。英会話学校のイベントなのでもちろん英語のゲームもやりました。オフィスマネージャーが選んだ店は居酒屋・レストラン「ちゃおず」。

I got there about twenty minutes before opening time but the staff let me in so I didn't have to wait out in the snow.

店開店２０分前に着いてましたが、スタッフが中に待たせてくれた。よかった。雪の中に立たなくて済んだ。

As I was the only one in the dining area, I took a couple of photos of the interior.

ダイニングホールにまだ誰でも居なかったため、店内の写真も撮りました。

Here's a sign you probably won't see displayed in any restaurant in the U.S. Well, with the current administration, you actually might!!

アメリカの飲食店でこういうサインは今時絶対飾らないと思う。あっ、今アメリカでトランプ政権ならあり得るけどな。

At these school events, you can find pictures of the teachers and students on the school's Instagram or Facebook account so I usually avoid featuring pictures of students on my own blog. However, I always do feature the food.

学校のイベントなら講師や生徒の写真は学校の公式INSTAGRAMやFACEBOOKに載せられてるので、個人のブログは生徒の写真はほぼアップしません。料理は別ですけどね。

Tonight was also one of the student's birthday. Of course we sang her happy birthday and brought out a dessert plate for her as well. She was so moved it brought her to tears.

今夜は１人の生徒の誕生日でした。もちろんハッピーバースデーを歌ってあげた。あと、彼女の為にデザートプレートも用意してあげて、生徒が感動のあんまりに泣いちゃった。

The set included an all-you-can drink menu as well. Unfortunately, beer would cost extra so I limited myself to drinking Cuba Libres, commonly known in the U.S. as rum and coke. 

セットは飲み放題が含めてましたが、ビールは別料金。という訳で自分はキュバ・リーブレだけをなんだ。アメリカなら普通にラム＆コークと言いますけどね。

Aomori Brew Pub / 靑森ブルーパブ

One of my students was being transferred to another town for work so he had to leave our school. He wasn't looking forward to spending the next to years in the town of Oma on the Shimokita Peninsula. So, I decided to throw him a small farewell party. It would only be him and one other student. We told him, it wasn't a "farewell party", it was an "encouragement party". A party to tell him some of the things he would be able to do and see while living in Oma. 

一人の生徒が職辞令辞令で靑森市から大間町に転勤ことになり、彼がちょっとブルーになった。また若いので、大間町で２年間勤務することだ。それでうちの学校を退会することになった。彼の為の送別会を開こうと思い、うちの近くの「靑森ブルーパブ」に予約を入れた。参加人数は僕と彼を含め、たったの３人です。３人目もうちの生徒。彼にこれは”送別会”ではなく”励まし会”ですと伝えた。大間町と下北の良さを伝えようとしました。

The menu system at this pub is by QR code and you fill your own glass and used the card provided to keep track of your bill. 

メニューシステムはQRコードで。ビールの支払いかたも変ってる。カードを貰って、ビールサーガーで自分が飲む量を注ぐ。

Work Neighborhood Walk and Happy Standard / 新町周辺の散歩と「ハッピー・スタンダード」

Earlier this year, in March, I was walking around my work neighborhood. It was a Thurday but it was a national holiday. I believe I went to check out this used CD shop before wandering around. 

今年の３月２０日、職場の周辺で散歩してました。平日だったけど、春分の日だった。日本なら春分の日は祝祭日です。職場近くにある中古CDショップを覗いたあとに、散歩した。

I spotted a vending machine advertising the Japan Blues Festival in Aomori. That might have been a cool show to check out. 

ある販売機でジャパン・ブルース・フェスティバルの宣伝を見かけました。ウェブアドレスは書いてあるけど、チェックしませんでした。

Aomori Prefecture is famous for its Jomon sites so you may spot these replicas of clay figures found at the various Jomon sites around town. 

靑森県は縄文時代の場所が数ヶ所あるので、こういった土偶は街のあちこちにある。

A Nebuta float on display at the To-o Nippo Shinmachi Building [News TO-O]. 

東奥日報新町ビル「News TO-O」の中に展示されてるねぶた。

The title of the Nebuta is [Yoshitsune and the Flying Dragons across the Romantic Strait]. 

ねぶたのタイトルは「浪漫海峡 義経龍飛」。

From June 30 to July 6, a music festival was going to be held in Aomori. I think it was more of a classical music event. 

６月３０日から７月６日まで、青い海と森の音楽祭が開催された。主にクラシックミュージックのイベントでした。

I decided to stop by a place called [Happy Standard]. This is where you get Aomori Tacos and spice beer. 

気になってた場所に行きました。それが靑森新町パッサージュにある「ハッピー・スタンだード」。靑森タコスとスパイスビールを提供している店です。

After soaking in a bath at Demachi Onsen and before going out to dinner, we still had a couple of hours to kill. So we went and played ping-pong!

出町温泉のお風呂に入った後と夕飯食べる前にまだ時間があったので、私たちはなんとピンポンで時間をつぶしました。

Our friends are here in Aomori for Golden Week, so we will be hanging out with them for the next few days. Tomorrow, we plan on going to a local museum and will have a cherry blossom viewing party at Gappo Park.

友達はゴールデンウィークの間青森にいるので、しばらく彼らと一緒過ごす。明日の予定は青森の郷土館に行って、そのあとは合邦公園で花見をする。
