Namioka Hachimangu Shrine and Kuroishi Shrine / 浪岡八幡宮と黒石神社

It was summer in 2017. On my birthday, my wife and I went to the Aomori City Medieval Pavilion. After we checked out all there was to see there, we then went and explored the Namioka Hachimangu Shrine which was located a short distance away. 

２０１７年の夏、丁度僕の誕生日の日、僕と妻が浪岡にある中世の館に行った。その場所を探索したあと、近くにある浪岡八幡宮に行ってみた。

社務所と想いますが、私たちが行った日に誰もいなかった。

Namioka Hachimangu Shrine is known for its annual event, the nakizumo contest which translates to the Crying Baby Festival. It was an old Aomori tradition wear babies were held by sumo wrestlers in the hopes that they would grow healthy and strong. Babies from six-months old to two-years are eligible. The baby who cries the loudest is claimed as the winner. 

浪岡八幡宮に毎年泣き相撲大会が行われてる。あるウェブサイトに調べてら、こうよう上昇を見つかりました。

昔から子供がお相撲さんに抱っこされると、丈夫で元気に育つと言われております。

その由来をイベントにしたの が【泣き相撲大会】。毎年生後6ヶ月～2歳までの子供たちが多数参加しており、呼び出しに名前を呼ばれた親は、土俵（東西）から進み【組みませ役】に赤ちゃんを手渡しし、行司の【ハッケヨイ！ノコッタ】の合図で泣きくらべをします。先に泣くか、後からでも泣く声の大きい方が勝ち。

This tree was planted on the 340th anniversary of a high-ranking official during the Edo era. 

信英公分知三百四十年記念植樹。

And I got my shrine seal from Kuroishi Shrine. I will have to try again to get my seal from Namioka Hachimangu Shrine.

そして黒石神社の御朱印をゲット。浪岡八幡宮に行ったとき誰も見つかれなくて、御朱印は貰えなかった。

Before calling it a day, we decided to have dinner at a local restaurant called Bikkuri Donkey but I will save that for a food post. 

家に帰る前に夕飯は人気チェイン店のレストラン「びっくりドンキー」に行きました。でもそれは食べ物のネタなので、別の時に紹介します。

Niogataki Falls in the Winter / 冬の乳穂ヶ滝

Last Sunday, we had amazingly good weather so my wife and I decided to take my mother-in-law out for lunch. We went to a cafe in Namioka called [Rashinban]. My wife and I had been there a couple of times before but only to eat their dessert. Today, we would go there for lunch. 

この間の日曜日の天気が良かったので、家族３人で出かけた。僕と妻と僕の義理の母。義理の母にランチをご馳走してあげようと想って、浪岡のお洒落カフェ「羅針盤」に連れてあげた。僕と妻は２回ほど行ったことある。デザートを食べる為に。今日はそのカフェでランチを食べる。

Lunch was served with soup and salad. 

ランチはスープとサラダ付き。

I ordered the Rashinban omurice (an omelet with rice).

自分が注文したのは羅針盤オムライス。

My wife ordered the roast beef one plate special. 

妻が注文したのはワンプレートのロースビーフ。

My mother-in-law ordered the beef stew but I wasn't comfortable taking picture of her meal before she ate it so no pics of that item. 

義理の母は羅針盤ビーフシチューを頼んだ。義理の母の料理の写真を撮るのはちょっと抵抗があり、撮らなかった。

After we finished lunch, my wife suggested driving to Nishimeya Village so we could check out the Niogataki Falls in the winter. It's said to be quite magical. 

ランチを食べ終えたら妻が西目屋村までいかないかを提案。目当て凍ってる乳補ヶ滝（におがたき）。冬になると幻想的な姿になるという話があります。

But first, we stopped at the Nishimeya Village Roadside Station [Tsugaru Shirakami] Beach Nishimeya.

The great thing about this roadside station is the soft serve which you can top with honey made in Nishimeya. You can also ask for more honey (at no extra cost) if that's your desire. 

この道の駅の名物はやはりソフトクリームの蜂蜜かけ放題。コロナ前は自分でやれば良かったけど現在スタッフのみが蜂蜜をかける。

There is a small coffee shop in at the Roadside Station where you can get Shirakami charcoal roasted coffee. 

道の駅の中に白神焙煎舎がある。ここで珈琲の販売と焙煎体験も出来る。

The Roadside Station is also located close to the Tsugaru Dam so at the restaurant [Mori no Door], you can find Tsugaru Dam Curry on the menu. 

道の駅「津軽白神」Beech Nishimeyaは津軽ダムの近くにあるため、中にあるレストラン「森のドア」のメニュに津軽津軽カレーがあります。

We didn't order it but it looks pretty good. 

注文はしてないけど結構美味しくに見える。

However, my mother-in-law wanted a waffle snack topped with Shirakami honey. 

でも義理の母がワッフルで蜂蜜かけをたのを食べたかったみたいで、私たちもそれを食べた。

My wife bought some Shirakami honey. It's a little expensive but so good.

妻が白神蜂蜜を買いました。ちょっと高いけど美味しい！

Now, it was off to the main event for the day. The Niogataki Falls. 

さて、これから目的地の乳穂ヶ滝に出発。

They do a light up at night and this is what it looks like when the entire waterfall is frozen.

And that was the end of our adventure. The only thing left to do was to head back home. But we had a great time.
