Today, I decided to write about something more current.Yesterday, Monday, August 10 which was also a national holiday in Japan, we went on a road trip to Rokkasho Village which is located along the Pacific Coast at the southern end of the Shimokita Peninsula. Our main goal was to see the Totoro Stone which my wife saw on some television show. The proper name being Shiofuki Ana. If you look at it from the right perspective, you will see a silhouette of Studio Ghibli's Totoro.
今日は最近体験したことを話します。昨日、月曜日、祝祭日にもなった８月１０日、妻とドライブに出かけた。今日の目的地は太平洋で下北半島の南のほうの六ケ所村を探索する予定。一番の目的は妻がテレビで紹介された、”トトロの岩”。自分もいろいろ調べたら、正式名は潮吹穴。
Our drive takes us through the town of Noheji Town where we stopped by to check out the Kitamaebun (old cargo ship) called the Michinoku Maru.
ドライブは野辺地町を通るので、野辺地に展示さてる北前船の「みちのく丸」を見に行った。
The ship is actually a replica of the original.
船は復元されたものです。

This building in the middle of what seems like nowhere is open to the public so we decided to explore.
なにもない場所にポツンと建てるこのビルが気になって調べてみた。普通に一般公開してるからなんだろうと思った。
The building was part of the Jisedai Energy Park. We were in the middle of the Mirai Power Kamikita Solar Power Plant.
次世代エネルギーパークにいました。ここは未来創電北上六ケ所太陽光発電所。

I waved to my sister and her husband who live across the Pacific. Wonder if they saw me?

Yes, it is. It's a matter of perspective. Can you see the silhouette of Totoro now. That's the Pacific Ocean in the background.

Totoro disappears if you try to look for him from the other side of the tunnel.
逆の方向でトトロを探してみても見つかりませんよ。

While I was looking out at the Pacific Ocean, my wife said, "Hey, there's a bird close to you."
自分が太平洋を見ながら、妻が声をかけ、近くにカモメがいるよって。
I got a picture of the bird just about to take off.
丁度飛ぶ前の写真を撮れた。
Our next stop was to check out a waterfall called Taki no shiriotaki. We got in the car and followed the navigator on my smartphone only to come back to where we left from as the waterfall was just a little further up the path past the Totoro Stone!
次の目的は滝の尻大滝。車に戻ってスマホで検索したら、道に出てまた去った場所に戻ることになった。その滝はトトロの岩から徒歩で５分の場所にあった！

Our final main destination was the Rokkasho Village Museum.

This large pot is called an oogame. It was believed to be used in the making of sake.

There was an area that displayed an array of Showa era items and many farm implements that were used as Aomori Prefecture is a mostly agricultural prefecture.

Fishing is another major industry in Aomori Prefecture.

We stopped by here thinking it was a damn but turned out to be a lock instead.

We stopped here at Rokushunkan for lunch. It was already 2pm so we just had something really light plus a couple of sataandagi, an Okinawan style donut.
ランチのためここ「六旬館」に止まってすごい軽いものを食べた。なぜと言えばもう午後２時だったもんで。コロッケとメンチ。丁度沖縄フェアがやってたので、沖縄のおやすさたあんだぎも食べた。
Last stop on our way home was Tofugaura Beach in Noheji.
最後寄ってみたのは野辺地にある豆腐が浦海水浴所。
And so ended our adventure.
これで今日の冒険の幕が閉じた。
