Dogtooth Violet Festival on Yu-no-Shima in Asamushi (Part 2) / 浅虫 湯の島 カタクリ祭り （パート２）

Time for our climb down from the summit of Yu-no-Shima. We will stop by the small shrine on the island before heading back to the docks.

湯の島の山頂から下りる時間が来た。次の目的地は島にある小さな神社。そこにお参りして、船乗り場に戻る。

And here we are at the shrine. I did say it was a very small one. It is called the Benzaitengu.

神社に到着。言った通り、小さな神社です。名前は弁財天宮。

At least we can walk down some stairs instead of a trail on our way back.

We decided to see how far around the island we could walk.

島を一周出来るかどうか歩いてみた。

We found a lot of clam shells on the edge of the island.

Nope, there is no trail all the way around the island.

My wife told me when she was younger, people were able to walk out to this island. Now it's the property of some university and is not open to the public.

妻が昔この島まで歩いて行けると言ってった。現在はある大学のキャンパス内に入ってるため、自由に行けることは出来ません。

Now, we are just waiting for our boat to return us to the mainland.

On our way back, we would drop by the shop that has over 100 different flavors of shakes on their menu. All in all a fun adventure.

帰りにみちのくで１００種類以上のシェイクの味があるところでもちろんシェイクを買いに行ってきました。湯の島は楽しい冒険でした。

Dogtooth Violet Festival on Yu-no-Shima in Asamushi (Part 1) / 浅虫 湯の島 カタクリ祭り （パート１）

From Asamushi, you can see an island a short distance away. You can also see a red torii as well. I wondered if people actually went to the island which is designated as a nature park but seemed to be off limits to the public. However, every April, the island is open to the public for the annual Dogtooth Violet Festival. The island is called Yu-no-Shima. You can take boat to the island (1000 yen round trip). Hike to the top of the island and try to find some white dogtooth violets. It's said that if you spot a white one, good fortune will come your way. On the way back down the path from the summit, you can make a short stop at a small shrine on the island as well.

浅虫から海に浮かぶ島が見える。島の前に赤い鳥居もあって、人はその島に行けるのかと前から考えた。普段は行けないみたいですが、毎年の４月中にカタクリ祭りが開催されます。島の名は湯の島。この時期は１０００円で往復のチケットが購入可能。島に着いたら、４５分くらいの散歩コースがあり、島の山頂まで登れる。帰り道に小さな神社にお参りことも可能です。

Yu-no-Shima is only a short distance away.

はい、やっぱりその建物が泊まったホテルだった。

島に近づいた。浅虫海の駅から１０分から１５分位の船旅。

カタクリ発見。これから島の山頂を目指す。

We're somewhere half way up the island.

島の山頂まであと２０分位。

I thought these were white dogwood violets but I was wrong. No luck yet.

これが白いカタクリと思ったら別の花でした。残念。

Just a few more minutes to the top.

山頂まであとちょっと。

Ah, this is it! The white dogwood violet. Yea! Good fortune should come our way. Talking with one of the volunteer guide, they had said they found only three white flowers in bloom this year.

あっ、これだ！白いカタクリ発見。よし、幸運が私たちに来るはずだ。ボランティアガイドと話したら今年、白いカタクリは三つくらいしか咲いてなかったみたい。

And here we are at the summit of Yu-no-Shima. 132 meters above sea level.

山頂に到着。湯の島の標高は１３２メートル。

One goal accomplished. Now to walk back down the island and to stop by the small shrine.

一つの目標を達成。これから下りて、島にある小さな神社でお参りします。

We spent about 15 minutes at the summit before heading back down but I will save that for the next post.

山頂で１５分くらい休憩して、それから下りる準備でもそれは次のネタに紹介します。
